GeoCalgary2020 and the Canadian Geotechnical Society (CGS) are closely following the rapidly changing situation regarding COVID-19 and how it may impact the conference. The safety and security of our sponsors, exhibitors, delegates and organizers is paramount. At this time, GeoCalgary2020 is still planned as scheduled for September, but should changes occur we will communicate updates to all registered delegates, accepted presenters, confirmed sponsors and exhibitors via email as well as through our website.
Alberta Health Services and the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) are actively monitoring the situation and working with the World Health Organization (WHO) and other international partners. Together they are gathering information and providing advice and guidance on the issue as it evolves. To remain informed at both the global and local levels, we are also monitoring and are in communication with Health Authorities, Convention and Visitors Bureaus (CVBs), and partner associations.

The theme for GeoCalgary 2020 is Reflection on Resources. The prosperity of Canada is largely founded on the extraction, transformation and utilization of resources from several sources, such as agriculture, oil and gas, metals and minerals, hydropower and wind energy. These activities all require infrastructure, facilities, plants, dams or dykes; the design and construction of which necessitate solving great geotechnical challenges. The conference intends to focus on past and recent geotechnical achievements, and the lessons that can be learned from them to improve current practices and build a better sustainable future.
It is our pleasure to welcome you to the 73rd Canadian Geotechnical Conference, taking place in Calgary, Alberta.
